Your vehicle paint has tiny pores which get clogged over time due to exposure to the bird droppings, brake dust, bugs etc. causing the paint to feel rough. Clay removes any embedded contaminates in the paint which will make the paint smooth allowing any protection applied to bond directly to the paint.
